A TRAD/DJ LIVE MIX

Trisco is the closing event of the Retrospect Arts Festival. We will transform the Blue Angel bar into a space for celebration when old meets new. Trisco aims to combine traditional Irish music with modern electronic music. The event will feature live Trad musicians collaborating with a DJ, as well as projections of digital art.

We invite everyone to a celebration where memory meets the dance floor.

Jason Turk

Jason Turk

Traditional Music (ITM), a multiple All-Ireland medalist, and a respected touring performer. He has toured extensively across Ireland, Europe and the United States with his own projects and with groups including The Young Irelanders and The Kilkennys.

His compositions take traditional rhythms and patterns as their roots, but are expanded to include influence from his classical training, aspects of other folk music traditions and modern experimental works. With a particular interest in the repertoire from the Sliabh Luachra region; Jason has a firm belief that it is important to nurture the authenticity of the Irish traditional music experience, staying true to its origins while also responding to the new modes of dissemination and diverse cultural influences that are part of our modern world.

His work explores the intersection of traditional Irish music and emerging technology, most notably through the Seaboard, a Multi-Polyphonic Expression MIDI instrument. His “Seaboard Sundays” series has received national and international attention. His Irish Music arrangements feature in a global Seaboard advertising campaign, are included in the Junior Cycle Music Maker syllabus where students are asked to listen to his interviews and performances and then discuss the uses of synthesisers in Irish Traditional Music. His work on this new instrument has been showcased through headline and support performances in Ireland and abroad.

He is currently developing this work further through new performance and composition projects integrating live electronics with Irish traditional music.
