John O'Boyle is a PhD (Arts) candidate at UCC, from which he also holds a BA (Honours) in English and an MA in Creative Writing. His academic work is concerned with the narratives and mythologies of decolonialist praxes presented in popular and contemporary media. His ultimate intention is to 'write back' against many of the harmful misconceptions surrounding such praxes, misconceptions which may predispose those accustomed to the western canon to take antagonistic positions towards the decolonial movements of the present day.
John's work has appeared in print in The Summit Avenue Review, The University of Minnesota Women's Center 60th Anniversary Zine, Focal Archive, and elsewhere. He has read as a featured poet for Mercier Press, Ó Bhéal, and Swerve Magazine. Through Focal Archive, he has collaborated on multimedia projects with The Slow Camera Exchange.
When he is not writing and researching, John enjoys composing music, hosting dinner parties, and playing cards with his friends.
